Managed Print
What is Managed Print?
Managed Print is a method used to control printing costs at the university. It limits the number of copies of an item to be printed and the number of pages per print request. With the capability of scanning OneCard comes the possibility of charging for printing in the future. This would be done in an effort to recover a portion of escalating printing costs. There is no charge for printing in ITS or ResTech labs at this time. Please check policies for other labs.
NOTE: Only DeKalb campus students can print in the labs.
How does Managed Print work in ITS and ResTech labs?
- Print job(s) sent to the printer from workstations will
first route to the release station and will not print until
you release the job. Jobs will time out and be lost if not
released within 45 minutes. Jobs cannot be deleted from
the release station.
- To release the job(s), use the mouse at the release station:
- Select one or more jobs from the list on the screen. The
jobs are listed in order by AccountID (Z-ID).
- Select the output printer.
- Select the Start Printing button.
- When prompted, swipe your student ID card (NIU
OneCard) through the card swipe mechanism at the
release station.
Guidelines for Control at the Release Station
- All print jobs must be selected for printing at the release
station. You MUST have a valid student ID card (NIU
OneCard).
- You may not print more than 32 “images” (16 duplex-
printed pages or 32 single-sided pages) at one time
except in the computer science and ResTech labs.
- Multiple jobs may be printed, but each job must be
selected individually.
- You may not print multiple copies of the same document
except in the ResTech labs.
