Official university correspondence is sent to NIU student e-mail accounts. This includes items such as class schedules, Student Financial Aid notifications, and statements from the Bursar’s Office. Failure to use and check your NIU e-mail can result in messages being missed.
The university will use your NIU student e-mail account for all correspondence relevant to your status as an NIU student. University systems (such as Blackboard, announcements, etc.) are coded to specifically send their messages to the student e-mail account associated with the AccountID (Z-ID) that exists for the student. Notifications will not be sent to other sources (such as personal e-mail accounts).
It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that their NIU e-mail account is checked regularly and has enough free space to receive university communication.
