Northern Illinois University operates educational centers in Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Rockford that host courses during evenings and weekends and conferences during the day. These convenient suburban locations deliver a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses and programs taught by NIU faculty.

At the Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Rockford locations, students have access to computing resource centers that are an electronic branch library mirroring the DeKalb Founders Memorial Library in terms of information retrieval via the Internet. All locations feature fully equipped distance education classrooms that facilitate multimedia presentations. Most of the classrooms include smart technology for course delivery. Open-access wireless computing is available at all locations. The computer labs are Novell networked, and feature data projectors and networked printers. Students can access an assortment of general productivity applications, as well as course-specific software. New, high-speed, video conferencing equipment now operates at all sites.
