Housing and Dining at NIU is continuously looking for ways to use technology to enhance the lives of students living in the residence halls. We have recently begun to use an online housing application system, Student Web Self Assign (SWSA), so students can sign up for NIU housing quickly and conveniently.
The room selection process went online for all students. New and returning students are able to select their hall, floor type, room type, roommate, and Academic Residential Program using the SWSA. Students are able to explore all the options available on-campus and make the choice that best fits their lifestyle.
In January of each year, all current residents receive materials with detailed instructions on how to participate in the room selection process.
